Bellflower Campanula

Sometimes called Canterbury Bells, these flowers are from the Adriatic region of the Mediterranean. Their scientific name is Campanula, which in Latin means “little bell”. This upright and eye-catching variety in particular has large flowers that can last for two weeks, or sometimes even longer. It can continuously flower for as long as 4 weeks, and as a perennial will bloom again with the return of spring or summer.

As a recent addition to our line of campanulas, they have the distinction of being pink when most campanula blooms purple or blue. This combined with our selection of spring time pottery, tins, and other containers makes these bellflowers ideal gifts for Mother’s Day. Additionally, they are mostly care-free and can be grown without much effort.

Indoors they prefer bright indirect light, and outdoors they can take full sun to partial shade. They are capable of enduring cold weather, but prefer an indoor temperature around 55º to 65º F. The only thing that must be monitored carefully is that the planting mix must be kept moist. Campanula Bellflower can tolerate USDA zones 3-11.

This crop of Campanula Bellflowers will be available at Bloomrite® Gardens April through May, and is priced at $3.85 per plant. The plants come in a 4 inch grower’s pot, and are sold in flats of 8 or 15.
