Featured Plant of the Week (Cattleya's)

Cattleya's are a diverse genus of orchids from all over South America. They are best known for their showy flowers, which usually includes three narrow sepals and three broader petals. One of which, is conspicuously curled into a frilled lip.
They come in in almost every color except for true blue and black.
To best care for them, provide bright indirect light, or an east or west facing window that will not get any midday sun. The leaves should be a light green in ideal conditions; if they turn dark green the plant needs more light.
Allow the pot to completely dry out between waterings, and avoid letting it stand in water. While Cattleya's are usually found in tropical regions they are capable of tolerating a fairly wide range of temperatures. In the winter they can even endure temperatures as low as 50º F, and in the summer over 95º F.
